Kickstart ROMs
for Amiga 500/600/2000, 3000(T), 1200, 4000(T) and CD32
If your Amiga is equipped with an old version of the Kickstart ROM
and you'd like to use a more current version of Workbench, you'll find
the right chip(s) here.
Kickstart 1.3 (rev. 34.005)
is required to run
Workbench 1.3.
This ROM is available for Amiga 500, 600 and 2000. (Amiga 600 note:
You cannot boot from the internal IDE interface with Kickstart 1.3.)
Kickstart 2.05 (rev. 37.350)
is required to run Workbench 2.0x and
2.1.
If you own an Amiga 600 with Kickstart 2.x and a revision below 37.300,
you need to upgrade in order to use the internal IDE controller (there is no
scsi.device in revisions below 37.300, so there's no way to access the HDD).
Kickstart 2.05 is only available for Amiga 500, 600 and 2000.
Kickstart 3.1 (rev. 40.xx)
is required to run
Workbench 3.1,
3.5 and
3.9. The Amiga 1200 and Amiga 4000
models produced by Commodore have Kickstart 3.0, which is not sufficient to run
the latest versions of the 68k Amiga OS.
Kickstart 3.1 is available for these Amiga models:
- Amiga 500/600/2000[/CDTV*] (one chip)
- Amiga 1200 (two chips)
- Amiga 3000(T) (two chips)
- Amiga 4000 (two chips)
- Amiga 4000T (two chips)
- CD32 (one chip)
Please note that every model needs its own version of the Kickstart ROM(s).
Only the types summed up in one line are interchangeable.
* The Kickstart ROM for Amiga 500/600/2000 can also be used
in the CDTV, but an updated version of the CDTV's Boot ROMs is required!.
Kickstart 3.X (rev. 45.xx)
as used in Amiga Forever, builds on the original Kickstart 3.1 ROM
components and features the following improvements:
- Patches originally released under the ESCOM and Gateway Amiga ownership - no SetPatch or reboot required
- scsi.device and exec.library updates by Alexander Benedictov, Chris Hodges, Heinz Wrobel and Toni Wilen
- expansion.library fixes by Jeff Weeks
- FastFileSystem fixes by Etienne Vogt
- mathieeesingbas.library fixes by Harry "Piru" Sintonen
The scsi.device updates included in the 3.X ROM make it possible to boot from disks larger than 4 GB.
Additional elements, such as FastFileSystem 45.9 and Installer 44.10, are included in the
Classic Support Workbench 3.1 distribution,
and complement the ROM-based enhancements.
Please note: In order to make room for the enhancements, the 3.X ROMs employ the same technique
used by Commodore for the 4000T ROMs, i.e. ROM space was freed by moving workbench.library out
of the ROM. This means that a Libs/workbench.library file must be present on the boot disk.
(Cloanto's Classic Support Workbench 3.1
and Amiga OS 3.9 already include the
required workbench.library.)
